When I am watching a whirlpool, I fear being drawn into it, like into a whirling current, a strong tornado and a crowd which is whirling around and around. I tap into these strong energies to create sculptures.

    “Wind and Boxes”
These are boxes of wind. I want to embrace the wind blowing from the horizon. I’ve tried to catch it many times, but it bounced and then left. I changed my mind. I gave up trying to put it into these yellow boxes. I hope you let yourself be blown to your favorite place, even to the plains and the mountains.

When I was looking for a place to install my works, I found the stone gate of the Aoki Shinto shrine. Then I stood still at the entrance to its precincts. There, I decided to enshrine my sculptures which I created with lively colors. Nearby, there is a quiet approach to the village shrine.

  • water meets land

I chose a place where land and water come together. The surface of the water changes in many ways with clear weather, cloud, rain, strong winds, downpours and sun, and energy aggregates and vibrates at the waterside. I wanted to build something to prove the existence of that energy.
